India, with its deep-rooted tea culture, is a global leader in producing some of the finest tea leaves.  While the country is home to many tea-producing regions, a few stand out for their exceptional quality and global recognition—Assam, Darjeeling, and Dooars. These regions not only shape India’s tea legacy but also contribute significantly to both domestic and international markets. Let’s dive into what makes them so special.

Darjeeling

Darjeeling perched high in the Himalayan foothills, with its cool climate and rolling terraces, produces elegant teas with a distinctive floral aroma and delicate muscatel flavor, making them highly sought after worldwide. Recognized as a Geographical Indication (GI) product in India, Darjeeling has four harvests, with the First Flush known as the "Champagne of Teas."

Darjeeling teas are best enjoyed without milk to allow their natural delicate flavors to shine.

Assam

Assam, located in the northeastern part of the country, is the largest tea-producing region in India. Known for its lush tea gardens along the Brahmaputra River, Assam offers robust and malty black teas that are central to various blends and consistently favored for their strong, rich flavors. This region’s extensive output makes it a powerhouse in terms of both quality and quantity, significantly contributing to India’s tea exports.

Recognized as a Geographical Indication (GI) product in India, Assam has four distinct flushes, among which the Second Flush is highly prized for its bold, strong, and robust character, natural vibrancy and superior aroma.

Dooars

The Dooars region, at the Himalayan foothills, is known for its lush landscapes and rich biodiversity, making it a key tea-producing area in India. With a subtropical climate and fertile loamy soil, Dooars teas have a unique flavor profile featuring subtle sweetness, briskness, and floral or malty notes. Their diverse microclimates and abundant rainfall contribute to their complexity. Typically located along riverbanks, the tea gardens benefit from fertile land, ensuring consistent yields and a delightful experience for connoisseurs.
